Holiday Lights

When the holiday season comes around and it's time to hang decorative lights, most people tend to bring out tangles of extension cords, duct tape and hope for the best! It's usually a bit of a mess. However, over the years, we've had a number of customers come up with some very clever ideas on how to install electrical items on their homes during their Mechanical Walk .

Our Favorites:

Admiral's Walk Townhouse with Candles
Outlets are placed in our homes, by code, about every 10 feet.  It is very helpful to add or center an outlet under windows for illuminated candles or wreathes.
Loudonville Off Site Renovation

Another great option is to add a couple exterior GFI (ground fault interrupted - for exterior use) outlets on the underside of a porch.  Such outlets can also be put on a switch, so that you can control your twinkling light show from the comfort of your home!

Recessed Lights Up High, Spotlights Down Low
Exterior recessed fixtures or spot lights placed in landscaping beds are great options for washing your home with light.  Beyond that, plant shelves often sit behind a large, upper Foyer window.  This makes it the perfect visible spot for putting decorations. Placing an outlet in a high spot ahead of time makes for convenient decorating.  Connect that outlet to a switch, and you can hide cords and won't ever never need to climb on a ladder to access your plug. We're all about making the holidays LESS work for you!
Merry Christmas!
We here at Hodorowski Homes wish you and yours a holiday season that is happy, healthy, merry and BRIGHT!

Popular House Trends for Baby Boomers

Here at the Hodorowski Group, we are noticing a rising trend in the types of houses and communities we are building that are more geared toward Baby Boomers, or, those born between the years of 1946-1964. Many of these Boomers are looking for convenient independent housing and are not at all ready to move into a retirement home. We wanted to share with you some of our senior-friendly house designs and a brand new community we recently finished building that are more popular with the Baby Boomers.

Homes with first floor Master Bedrooms: According to National Association of Home Builders, "more than 40% of new homes have Master Suites downstairs, a 15% increase over a decade ago. Boomers not wishing to go up and down stairs... helped fuel this trend. The bedrooms also are also larger, with more spacious walk-in closets and bathrooms that have a separate tub and shower and dual sinks."  (NAHB) We offer a number if different house designs with a first floor Master Suite. Some of our more recently built houses that follow this trend is the 'Ashley', 'Biltmore' and 'McKinley.' Other designs include the 'Brighton', 'Taylor', 'Buchanan' and the 'Tyler' designs.
The 'Ashley' design

Downsizing to a one story design: Another trend we are seeing with Baby Boomers is downsizing to a smaller one-story or ranch house. "A smaller home sometimes means less maintenance, less work and less worry." says a recent article from U.S.News, "... and a lot of them, suffering from bad ankles, bad knees and bad hips, are opting for one-story housing." In the past year we have built a number of different ranches in several different communities including The Preserves, Sandy Rock Estates and Traver's Meadow. The more popular one story house designs we've built are the Stanton, Aqueduct, and Cleverdale. Other ranch designs include the Camden, Cleveland, Franklin Pierce, and Covington.

Age restricted apartment living:  Then there are the Baby Boomers that take downsizing to another level and move to an age restricted community or senior apartment living.  These Boomers are looking for the quality of independent living but with the convenience of not needing to maintain a house or property. The Hodorowski Group recently finished building a 110 unit senior apartment building called Glenwyck Manor, in Glenville, New York with amenities included like a fitness center, indoor pool, community center, and spa. There are about 80 units available to rent still in either a one or two-bedroom option. For more information on Glenwyck Manor, visit www.MeadowsAtGlenwyck.com. If Glenville isn't the area for you, we are also starting phase I of construction of a similar community in Wilton, New York.

In-law apartments: One final trend we are seeing in the houses we build, is the rising popularity of in-law apartments attached to the main house of a home. We offer several options for those looking to build a brand new home, with the convenience of having Mom and Dad next door. You can read more about the In-Law options we have, and see some of the designed we've built here.
This 'Helmond' has a custom built in-law apartment attached.

We'd love to know, if you are a Baby Boomer, what something that look for in a home or community?

At Hodorowski Homes, our main mission is to present our customers with excellent customer service and deliver a quality home. Nothing makes us happier than making our customers happy!

We are thrilled to share with you a testimonial from Jen, one of our recently completed houses.

"To The Hodorowski Homes Team,

From the first day to the last, our experience with Hodorowski [Homes] was perfection. Every member of this amazing team should be applauded for their professionalism and expertise in the home building process. The real estate agent for Hodorowski [Homes], Paula Filkins, took the time to listen and truly understand our vision and then found ways to bring even the tiniest details to fruition without breaking our budget. Not one request was deemed impossible. Thank you to everyone at Hodorowski [Homes] and especially to Paula for making our dream become a reality. We LOVE every single square inch of our new home!

- Jen, Mike and Everly Reeves."

A Tale of Two Broadways

Remember when we posted recently about our development in The Preserves? Well guess what? We are completely SOLD OUT there! (Woo hoo!) Not only are we sold out but we are getting closer and closer to closing on our first house in that development.

The most popular model house in The Preserves is the Broadway Model.  We love how our customers have taken this house and completely made it their own. Take a look at the two Broadways below.

The one on the top has chosen a very traditional look. We love the "Wineberry" shutters color against the Champagne siding! The Broadway on the bottom has selected a more modern contemporary look and we love how the garage door glass coordinates with the glass on the front door. Although both of these houses are the exact same model, they each portray a completely different look and both are beautiful! Just wait until you see the insides! More photos to come as the houses progress.

Although this development is sold out, you still have an opportunity to build right around the corner! If you are interested in building a home with Hodorowski Homes, check out our Sandy Rock development! Contact Paula Filkins (518) 221-7757 or Jim Bordis (518) 229-6235. Tell us what your favorite Hodorowski Homes model is!

Hodorowski Homes is Riding for Tour de Cure

Here at Hodorowski Homes we are not only passionate about building beautiful homes, we are also dedicated to supporting nonprofit organizations such as the American Diabetes Association. Diabetes affects nearly 26 million children and adults in America, (which is a huge amount of people!) and the ADA is committed to finding a cure to diabetes.

The ADA runs the Tour de Cure bicycle ride every year to benefit diabetes research to finding a cure for this disease. The impact of diabetes is really astounding, in fact “1 in 3 children born in the year 2000 will develop diabetes in their lifetime if current trends continue.” The good news is the ADA is dedicated to finding a cure and they are “the nation's leading 501(C)3 nonprofit charity fighting against diabetes and its deadly consequences.”

Hodorowski Homes is proud to announce that will be riding together as a team alongside thousands of others in the Tour de Cure ride on June 1st in Saratoga, NY and we could not be more excited!! As a team, we will be fundraising to meet our team goal and we need your help! It’s incredibly easy to donate to the Tour de Cure- just follow this link to our team page and click on “Donate to a Rider” You can contribute to the fight against diabetes by supporting your local builder! Any donation amount would be greatly appreciated by us here at Hodorowski Homes.

Thank you so much in advance, and come cheer us on at the Tour de Cure on June 1st!

Calling Travers Meadows Home

Paul Hodorowski has done it again! Many young families would come to our open house at Travers Meadows and through our conversation, they would express how much they would love to live at Travers Meadows.

The neighborhood design of this community is second to none! With sidewalks and curbing wrapping through the entire community, every home site backing up to a "forever wild area", garages tucked away in the rear of the homes and large expansive front porches to wave and say hello to neighbors as they stroll by on the sidewalk.

These amenities, however, are not inexpensive and so Paul, in consultation with his architects, is introducing "THE ROCKPORT" and "THE HOMESTRECH".

In the upper $200s, these 3 bedroom 2.5 bath colonials will allow more families to call Travers Meadows home.

Thanks Paul! For not compromising the quality or features of the neighborhood in your constant drive to create a successful place to call home.
